Certain gambling activities to be banned in the city of Liverpool

liverpoolLooks like casino games enthusiasts in Liverpool will not be able to try their luck on games like slots and roulette in local betting shops as fixed-odds betting machines are going to be banned in the city.

Liverpool call for government to ban fixed-odds betting terminals or give councils powers to limit stakes and restrict betting shop numbers because people lose money that barely afford. Liverpool City Council states that it supports a motion to ban these machines due to the speed as well as the amount at which money can be bet. People claim that these machines allow people to bet at four times the rate than normal casinos allow.

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, pledges to take an appropriate look at the issue after an inquiry was raised in the Commons. The Association of British Bookmakers says no evidence has been produced to show the machines cause problems with gambling.

The city council is the first in the UK to initiate such a move and has called upon other local authorities to follow them in this particular issue. It says that it would like to see these machines removed from betting shops and would like to see limits placed on the amount that people can bet. Liverpool City Council does not have the power to utter ban such machines.
